Francis X. Cedilotte


Cedilotte DELMAR Francis X. Cedilotte, 93, of Delmar, died October 17, 2005 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Frank was born January 1, 1912 in Palmer, Mass., the son of the late Francis X. Cedilotte Sr. and Cordelia Byrnes Cedilotte. His parents were immigrants from Canada and Ireland, respectively.

Having lost his father, Frank moved with his mother to Albany in 1923, graduating from St. Mary's Grammar School and Christian Brothers Academy. He earned a B.S. in physics and math and a M.A. in sociology from Siena College. He married Kathleen Erma Sanford in 1943 and together they raised four children.

Frank served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific area of operations. In 1976, he retired from the New York Telephone Company as a senior network design engineer after 46 years of service. Frank was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar, a lifetime member of the New York Telecomm Pioneers, a member of the Second Milers, the Albany Radio Association and the Albany Society of Engineers.

Continuing education was a lifelong pursuit of his and, as a senior citizen, he audited numerous courses at various colleges and universities into his mid-80s. His other hobbies included avid reading, the arts, walking, gardening, golf and travel to scenic areas throughout New York State and New England. He was also a dedicated volunteer and supporter over many years at fund raising activities on behalf of Christian Brothers Academy and Siena College, receiving the CBA Excellence in Alumni Services Award in 2005.

He was a resident of Delmar for 53 years, the last year at the Delmar Place assisted living residence. He greatly appreciated the many friendly and helpful interactions he had with both the staff and residents of that community.

In addition to his parents, Frank was predeceased by his sister, Marie Rose Cedilotte; his son, Lawrence James Cedilotte; and his son-in-law, Robert Schmitt. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Kathleen Erma; his daughters, Kathleen C. Schmitt of Delmar and Mary L. Stephenson of Bloomfield, Conn.; his son, Edwin F. Cedilotte (Joanne) of Glenmont; his granddaughter, Christine M. Cedilotte of Guilderland; grandsons, Jeffery D. Bielefeld (Corrie) of Forest Grove, Ore. and Andrew Schmitt of Albany; and a great-grandson, Kristofer J. Bielefeld.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, Delmar. The family will receive visitors at the church prior to the Mass. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Brothers Academy, 12 Airline Dr., Albany, NY 12205 or Siena College, 515 Loudon Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211.
