Robert Schmitt

DELMAR Robert Schmitt, 62, of Delmar, died Monday, January 10, 2005 at his home. Mr. Schmitt was born in Bronx, N.Y. on March 11, 1942 and raised in Plainview, L.I., the son of the late George and Ethel (Pfeiffer) Schmitt. He was a graduate of Plainview High School, received a bachelor's degree from Columbia College and master's degree from SUNY Binghamton. Rob served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, specializing in recruitment and public relations, until his retirement in 1979. He then taught at the Bethlehem Central School District, Adult Education Program, was an instructor with the Sage College, Evening Division and at U.S. Job Corps in Glenmont. He later worked as a veteran's counselor for the NYS Division of Veteran's Affairs, a position he held for over ten years, before retiring in 2002.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen C. Schmitt of Delmar; two sons, Andrew R. Schmitt of Menands and Jeffery D. Bielefeld (Cory) of Forrest Grove, Ore.; a brother, George A. Schmitt (Ellen) of Delmar; uncles, Andrew Pfeiffer of Tampa, Fla. and John Pfeiffer of Houston, Texas; a grandson, Kristofer J. Bielefeld; and a niece, Christine M. Cedilotte of Guilderland. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday evening from 4 to 8 at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may send a remembrance in his name to the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society, Oakland Ave., Menands 12204.
